Sheffield Cutler Illustration

Arthur Wright & Sons was founded in 1947 as a producer of traditional pen and pocket knives. Hailing from Sheffield, England, Arthur Wright's products are all handmade by trained apprentice Sheffield cutlers. Every process from blanking out the blades and springs, hardening and tempering, assembly, grinding and glazing, right up to final polishing are all done in-house.

Arthur Wright & Sons produce several styles of knives, with a number of them reflecting the traditional style Barlow knife. The first recorded Barlow knives originate around 1670 and were produced by Obadiah Barlow in Sheffield England. In 1745, John Barlow joined the cutlery business and was responsible for the export of Barlow knives to British colonies, America in particular. It was here that the Barlow knife became extremely popular amongst teenagers and young adults and even made its way into Mark Twain novels Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. It was also said that George Washington carried a Barlow knife.

Arthur Wright & Sons is one of few that continue to maintain and preserve Sheffield's cutlery industry producing some of the best knives in the world.
